Post-Bling: Profit on the Burning Shore:
Bling is rare and ubiquitous, valuable and tacky, enduring and maleable. It is earned, won and stolen. It is a symbol of luxury, mythical and financial power, old and new money, of hip hop, healing, protection, poisoning. For its purity, it is associated with the elemental, the divine, the alchemical, utopian, the magical. It is obtained through ingenuity, exploitation and opportunism. Is the time of excess over? Real or fake, will bling go on? The Golden state is the land of opportunity, symbol of progress, the object of manifest destiny, and the most debt-ridden state in the country. Are we still blinging?

Curated by Elyse Mallouk and Amy Keefer.

Pity Party:
1) Think about something that you think deserves pity (ie. your loan-ravaged future, animals at the zoo, the ozone layer, Hillary Clinton, a struggling business....)
2) Write a testimonial plea to fundraise for this something, describe your compassion, convince us of its need. This can be as brief, elaborate, straightforward, or decorated as you see fit.
3) Find a jar
4) Tape testimony to an appropriate-sized jar (what does 'appropriate' mean? I guess it depends on how much pity you're expecting)
5) Drop off in Mara's studio (Hooper 3, #6), or send to address below (if you don't want to send a jar, just send the testimonial and we'll find a jar for it)
6) Come to the opening, Monday, March 9th, with friends and spare change

Every cent counts! All donations, no matter how meager, will be distributed to their appropriate reci-pity-ent when the space gets deinstalled. We'll also set up a pity-jar construction table at the event. If you have extra jars, pull 'em out of your recycling bin and bring them to CCA! Oh, and you can make as many as you want. There's a lot of need in the world.
